We are welcoming a new face to North Origin and he was kind enough to sit down and answer some questions for us!! Come get to know a newcomer to the label; Duce.
As a quick introduction for the readers, tell us a little bit about
yourself. Where are you from and what got you into Dance music? - My name is Adam Ducey, I'm a 27 year-old progressive & melodic house producer from Saint Louis, USA. I've been making music on and off for the past 12 years but just recently started taking it seriously and got into making dance music about two years ago. I was introduced to Dance music in college, listening to Martin Garrix and fell in love. I DJd Dance music at house parties and bars at school. I started producing more as well. My sound started more mainstream EDM but has progressively moved to a more progressive & melodic house vibe, where it is today. Who are your main influences when it comes to producing music? - I really look up to the This Never Happened crew. Listening to Lane 8, Sultan Shepard, and Jerro is what really drew me to the genre. I love the attention to emotion and tension they create in their tracks and I try to emulate them into my own work as well. I also really enjoy Tinlicker, Yotto, and Ross Quinn. What other up and coming artists are really catching your attention? - Easy answer, ELEKTRIK BLVNKET... We're both from the same area and she is a fantastic artist. My favorite from her is "In The Jungle", just a banger. What do you have in store for the rest of 2023 as far as releases? - I have a track called "Delicate" coming out on November 3rd right here on North Origin, really excited for that. I am hoping to have a few more tracks out by the end of the year, but no release dates set yet. I do have some exciting things planned for 2024 so stay tuned for that as well :) What aspirations do you have? Both artistically and life in general? - My musical aspirations really just stem from me wanting to create songs that speak and connect on an emotional level. I feel if it resonates with me, it will do the same to the listener as well. So just creating good music I guess. But in life overall I want to be the best caring and loving person I can for my wife and my baby boy who is on the way. And just to be happy in this life doing things I love, cant ask for much more! Tell us a little bit about your production process... - My process normally starts by listening to music and just getting my mind in the right mindset to create. It really all depends on what ideas I have in my head. I could have a chord progression or lead in my head and open FL Studio to record it into fruition and build around that. Or if I'm stumped, I'll mess around and create some sort of drum groove and play on top of that loop until smoothing comes out of it. My process is all about doing what sounds good and not forcing anything. Just keeping it fun and enjoyable! Apart from music, what else makes you happy? - My beautiful wife, Kendall, makes me so happy and inspires me everyday. As I said earlier, we are expecting our first kid and I couldn't be happier! Hot wings and beer also make me pretty happy lol What advice would you give to brand new producers who are just starting their journey? - Come into the process with an open mind and embrace the grind! Connect with other producers through Instagram or Discord and create a community you can bounce ideas off of and ask for feedback. I have found it to be a great asset to receive feedback from people who are better producers, as I feel it's the best way to learn the right way fast. Giving feedback yourself is also a great way to learn and connect. Those are a few things I wish I knew before I started producing. Duce's first single with us ''Delicate'' is out next week.
